Essential Oils and Dentistry

Though essential oils produced by plants have been used for hundreds of years across cultures and countries, new research is shedding light on their antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral, and anti-aging properties. In dentistry, there are benefits to using essential oils such as tea tree, peppermint, eucalyptus, and peppermint as ingredients in mouthwash. It can reduce plaque-causing bacteria that can lead to cavities and bad breath, as well as reduce gum inflammation and irritation to promote healthier gums.
